BURBANK, Calif. -- More than two thousand men, women and children will lace up their shoes on Thanksgiving morning and gather in Downtown Burbank to participate in the third annual Turkey Trot 5K/10K Run, featuring a new and improved course and Kiddie 1K Fun Run on Thursday November 22 at 8:00 am. Benefiting the Burbank Community YMCA's financial assistance program, the event features cash prizes for top finishers, running shirts for all registered participants, a fun expo, raffle and costume contest.
The 5K/10K double-loop course, measured to USA Track and Field Standards, will begin in front of the YMCA building at 321 E Magnolia Boulevard in Downtown Burbank, and will wind down Glenoaks Boulevard toward Alameda Avenue, then over to Flower Street, Verdugo Avenue, Lake Street, Olive Avenue and back to Third Street for the finish line.
Participants are urged to preregister online at www.burbankturkeytrot.com or in advance at the YMCA, but last minute registration on race day is available from 6:30 am to 8:00 am. Registration fee is $30 through November 15, after which the fee increases to $35. Kiddie 1K Fun Run is $15 (must be 7 years old or younger.)
Prizes include two $250 cash awards for top male and female finishers in 5K and 10K runs, and commemorative awards for the first three male and female finishers in each age group. All registered participants receive a long-sleeve, high-quality shirt, with 1K Fun Run kids receiving a ribbon, prize and short-sleeve t-shirt. The event is open to everyone, from experienced runners to novices. Families are invited to show their support and cheer on the runners. Thanksgiving themed costumes are encouraged.
“We’re continuing a healthy Thanksgiving tradition,” said Burbank Community YMCA CEO, JC Holt. “One of the Burbank Community YMCA's main focus areas is healthy living, and the Turkey Trot is a great way to kick off the season. Plus, proceeds benefit the YMCA’s financial assistance program, which offers reduced fees for people who want to stay healthy but can’t otherwise afford membership.”
Free parking is available for participants at the Burbank Town Center, located directly across from the YMCA at the corner of Third Street and Magnolia Boulevard. Street closure information will be available at www.burbankturkeytrot.com from November 19 through race day.
Presenting sponsors include Cusumano Real Estate Group, Burbank Town Center, Downtown Burbank Partnership and Buddy's All-Star Sporting Goods. Event sponsors are Production Resource Group, Burbank Water and Power, Crown Disposal, Aramark, Fleet Feet Sports, Dr. Mark Kaufman, Dasani Water and Voskos Greek Yogurt. The YMCA thanks these and other community sponsors whose generous contributions support this worthwhile cause.
