Burbank, CA - When the producers of American Idol and Paula Abdul couldn't come to an agreement on compensation for Abdul - something which played out over Twitter, people wondered whether anyone else would be joining Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi as judges on Season 9 of American Idol. Ellen DeGeneres announced the surprising news that she would be a judge on Fox' popular signing competition.
DeGeneres still plans to continue with her popular show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which is filmed in front of a live audience in Burbank, California. Making things easier is that the final rounds of American Idol are primarily filmed down the road in Hollywood, California, a short ride from her Burbank studio.
According to the news release from Fox, "The ninth season of AMERICAN IDOL premieres January 2010 on FOX. DeGeneres will join the judges' panel after the auditions, which will feature appearances by guest judges Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Shania Twain."
DeGeneres will no doubt bring her own comedic flavor to the show, and she is certainly going to make things very interesting. Season nine promises to be one that fans will surely watch to see how the judges interact with each other - if not for the talented singers that compete on the show each week.
