Downtown Burbank Hosts ‘Party of the Century’



In honor of Burbank’s 100th birthday, residents will honor the city with a “Party of the Century” this Friday, July 8 in Downtown Burbank.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. It will feature a large variety of activities for the whole family including flybys, parades, stages with entertainment, children’s entertainment, great food and much more! The Party of the Century will take over six blocks of Downtown Burbank – including San Fernando Boulevard, Palm Avenue, AMC Walkway, Orange Grove and Olive Avenue.

The city incorporated in 1911. This party honors Burbank’s first 100 years. There will also be community booths and true civic pride will be on display. The night will cap off with a grand fireworks display.

On the anniversary of its incorporation in 1911, the City of Burbank will celebrate its 100th year with the Party of the Century in Downtown Burbank, Friday, July 8 from 5:00 to 10:00 P.M.

The party kicks off at 5 p.m. with a live broadcast in front of City Hall at 275 E. Olive Avenue. It will showcase locals, KNBC Weatherman Fritz Coleman and many local celebrities from Burbank’s film and TV history. As part of the ceremony, officials will revel the contents of a time capsule at Angeleno Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard. Additionally, a new one will be created for the future.

Be first in line for a taste of one of the biggest cupcakes ever – served up by Mickey and Minnie Mouse. It’s huge and big enough to serve 2,000 people. But it will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. It was created by the fabulous trifecta of Porto’s Bakery & Cafe, Martino’s Bakery and Yummy Cupcakes.

At 5:45 p.m., there will be an air parade in the sky including McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornets. B-25 Mitchell bombers, Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena Police Notar helicopters, Aero Squadron World War II planes, helicopters from Los Angeles County Sheriff “Air 5” Rescue, Los Angeles County Fire, Long Beach Police and the Orange County Sheriff departments and more.

The kids will really enjoy the mascot parade led by Bugs Bunny himself! It will also feature Burbank High’s Bulldog, the John Burroughs Cheer Squad, Hootie the Owl, Domino’s Noid, Geoffrey the Giraffe, the H.T. Bee, Sergeant McGruff the Crime Dog, Burbank Fire Department’s L’il Squirt and many others. The parade will go up and down Olive Avenue to San Fernando Boulevard. You’ll have a chance to get photos on San Fernando Boulevard.

The streets also will be filled with stages and entertainment including rock and rollers Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries, the Alley Cats, a USO Show by Wartime Radio Revue, DJ Ranney spinning Burbank’s favorite tunes, a Fabulous Fifties bandstand with the retro crooners High Street, celebrity lookalikes, jazz and blues band The Bluez Express and a kids stage featuring Radio Disney’s Street Team.

SuperShuttle will offer free rides from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. with stops at McCambridge Park Recreation Center, which is at Glenoaks Boulevard and Amherst Drive, and at the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station, at 201 N. Front Street.
